In today's fast-paced business environment, navigating regulatory compliance can be a daunting task. Enter Universal Workflow Suite (UWS). From electronic batch records to training to batch records to inventories, we wanted to put everything under one roof.

Why Did We Do This?

A number of us have worked for large companies, in highly regulated environments, with a limited time to make important decisions. We found that bouncing back and forth between software, copying and pasting endless data, manual procedures for generating notebooks, double and triple checking training records, and everything else was becoming a primary task, as opposed to just getting the research or manufacturing done.

Key Features of UWS Software

  • Electronic Lab Notebook (eLN): An eLN with integrated tables, charts, inventory management, equipment scheduling, compliance/training/safety checks, and so much more.

  • Electronic Batch Record (eBR): When you're doing the lab work towards tech transfer and you need to switch platforms, it's simply another way to ramp down productivity. We thought that if we were doing our notebooking in one place, shouldn't we be able to use it to template our tech transfer experiments, and use those to template production?

  • Inventory Management: Equipment and materials are integral to each notebook or batch record. Even more, these should be interacting systems. Your inventories shouldn't be wondering when the last batch was performed with a given material, or on a given piece of equipment. Your inventories should know if you just used up the last of your microcrystalline cellulose in a direct compression campaign, or your THF in a complicated synthesis, so that you know it's time to order more. Your notebook shouldn't let you proceed if preventative maintenance is late. These are the kinds of thing that can turn the normal headaches of work in a regulated environment into a full-blown nightmare. We decided to nip those problems in the bud.

  • Data Analysis: For DoE's, analysis of materials in your inventory, and so much more, we tossed in a data analysis package.

  • Training: One of the key issues we saw in other organizations was a lack of the ability of execution software to "talk to" training software. If you're going to do training to use equipment or perform procedures, your notebooks should know about it. What's more, they should prevent someone from doing work that they're not authorized to do.
